Dirk J Primus

Bio:
Dirk J Primus is a tenured Associate Professor of Management at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. From 2019 to 2020, he was a Visiting Scholar in Technology and Innovation Management at the University of Newcastle, Australia. His academic and advisory work in Strategic, Technology and Innovation Management draws from extensive experience (15 years) gained in various leadership positions in the Life Sciences Industry. During his industry career, he worked for Johnson and Johnson, Fresenius Pro Serve, Life Sciences/M&W and, most recently, for Pall Life Sciences. He holds a PhD in Business from Bentley University, an Executive MBA in Entrepreneurial Strategy, as well as degrees in Microbiology and Bioprocess Engineering. His recent published articles are featured in Technovation, the Creativity Research Journal, the International Journal of Technology Management, the Encyclopedia of Creativity and in the International Journal of Logistics Management. Dirk is an active member of the International Society of Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM), he is certified as a Lego Serious Play and Design Thinking Facilitator. As an independent advisor, Dirk offers customized talent development in creative problem-solving, facilitation services for Strategy and Innovation Workshops, as well as advisory services on key managerial challenges, such as optimal timing of entry for innovations, technology deployment, digital transformation, estimating and controlling of the economics of innovation projects and portfolios or strategic resource allocation during market introduction and rapid growth periods. He has successfully planned and executed dozens of workshops, talent development sessions and advisory projects for clients in North America, South America, Australia and Europe, including Scandinavia. Based on his extensive industry experience and research findings, he has developed a customized collection of constructive and reflective tools/exercises that maximize the creative potential of individual innovators and novice, temporary multi-disciplinary teams. His work as a facilitator and trainer is strongly influenced by designerly approaches to innovation and strategy making, Karl Weik’s conceptions and Kantian philosophy on imagination, and makes use of contemporary ideas, like constructivism’s “think with your hands” or Andy Clark’s extended “mind outsidethe head”. During Dirk’s development activities and workshops, be it in in-person or virtual settings, participants are deeply engaged, work smart and think with a smile.
