Volunteer Opportunities

Here are some of our current volunteer opportunities.

Director of Administration
Will participate in:

  • Keeping the records of all business meetings of the Ocean State Chapter and meetings of the Board.
  • Managing all physical arrangements for each Chapter meeting.
  • Recommending to the Chapter Board of Directors any additions, changes to, or deletions of meeting facilities.
  • Forwarding information regarding meeting locations to the Vice President of Marketing for publication purposes.
  • Working with the Vice President of Programs to ensure that the appropriate presentation equipment is available for all Chapter meetings.
  • Collecting or recording Chapter and Special Meeting minutes and distribute said minutes to the membership.
  • Organizing and maintaining, in the Chapter Library, official Chapter records and prepare and distribute compilations of the same as required.
  • Notifying the membership of all nominations twenty-one (21) days before the annual election of officers.
  • Staffing, or arranging for, the staffing of the Registration Desk at all Chapter meetings.
  • Preparing monthly status reports for presentation at Chapter Board meetings.
  • Maintaining and delivering all permanent records to the position successor as required.

 

Director of Communications
Will participate in:

  • Publicity of the Ocean State Chapter and the PMI. This will be achieved through the use of internal and external publications, and through ongoing updates to Chapter members. Duties shall include:
  • Strategic planning / direction of Communications for the Ocean State PMI to all chapter members.
  • Preparation of Chapter Newsletters for review by the Board of Directors prior to distribution.
  • Development and placement of advertisements in local newspapers of Chapter meetings, events, workshops, seminars, and vendor shows.
  • Handling of public relations and press releases for all Chapter events and activities.
  • Submission of regular information on Chapter activities for publication in PMI publications.
  • Preparation and distribution of meeting notices.
  • Forming Communications Committees based on the strategic plan for Communications.
  • Preparing status reports for presentation at Chapter Board meetings.
  • Maintaining and delivering all permanent records to the position successor as required.

 

VP/Director of IT
Duties shall include:

  • Technical operations of the Chapter. This will be achieved through the use of a website, and through partnering with IT providers, as well as software as appropriate.
  • Strategic planning and direction of Information Technology for the Ocean State PMI, including planning for new technology investments in such features as Web based services, registration services, and credit card processing.
  • Chapter Web site and working with the Web Site Committee, Webmaster and Board of Directors to keep the site current and to evaluate the needs of the site moving forward.
  • Forming IT Committees based on the Strategic Plan for Information Technology.
  • Preparing status reports for presentation at Chapter Board meetings.
  • Maintaining and delivering all permanent records to the position successor as required.

 

Vice President of Professional Development
Duties shall include:

  • Promoting Project Management Professionalism through the development of educational publications, seminars, and workshops designed to help individuals achieve and maintain certification as Project Management Professionals (PMP’s).
  • Duties shall include:
  • Providing the membership with professional workshops and seminars designed to improve their development in the field of Project Management
  • Establishing and overseeing a volunteer group charged with the task of developing and delivering a certification examination preparation workshop, with the goal of being offered on a bi-annual basis at a minimum.
  • Establishing and maintaining a Chapter Library of project management reading material and professional publications.
  • Working with local educational institutions to enlist their support of Project Management Professionalism through the PMI and the Chapter in collaboration with the Vice President of Administration.
  • Coordinating and maintaining certification preparation workshop modules to insure they reflect the types of changes being made to the PMI certification test.
  • In cooperation with the Vice President of Marketing, actively pursuing paid workshop attendance by the public at large.
  • Preparing monthly status reports for presentation at Chapter Board meetings.
  • Maintaining and delivering all permanent records to the position successor as required.

 

VP/Director of Programs
Duties shall include:

  • Development and delivery of programs relating to project management for each scheduled Chapter meeting.
  • Solicitation of input from Chapter members for program content. The content of these programs is to be consistent and in accordance with the objectives of the Chapter and with majority approval of the Chapter Board of Directors.
  • Developing and maintaining individual member "area of interest" lists and work with other Board members to determine areas of interest of Chapter members for use in program delivery.
  • Monitoring and reporting on requirements, participation levels and general membership feedback.
  • Providing input for the yearly chapter reports to the PMI.
  • Preparing monthly program schedules and agendas showing all planned Chapter activities for the program year, including speaker, vendor presentation, etc. and providing the same to Vice President of Marketing for distribution.
  • Directing the presentation of special seminars, meetings and vendor exhibits that the Chapter Board of Directors deems beneficial to the local membership and assuring that Chapter meetings do not conflict with the annual PMI meeting.
  • Obtaining information on future guest speakers at least a month in advance of meetings to provide adequate lead time for the Vice President of Marketing to publicize such events.
  • Preparing program and meeting notices for publication and distribution by the Vice President of Marketing.
  • Continually assessing meeting facilities utilized by the Chapter for appropriateness of accommodations, accessibility to meeting attendees, and economic feasibility,
  • Preparing monthly status reports for presentation at Chapter Board meetings.
  • Maintaining and delivering all permanent records to the position successor as required.
