A native of South Kingstown, Murray Gates graduated from the University of Rhode Island after serving in the United States Navy as a Cryptologic Technician. Trained to speak Vietnamese, Murray's first private sector employer was V-TRAC, a nation-wide supplier of equipment manufactured by Caterpiller and other US companies and one of the first wholly owned American companies to locate itself in the Socialist Repbulic of Vietnam after the re-establishment of relations between the US in 1994.
After returning to the US, Murray spent five years employed by GTECH Corporation managing the installation of lottery systems in several countries including the US, China, Morocco and Isreal. For the past four years, he has worked as a consulting contractor both independently as well as within international IT service providers. Murray is currently employed as a senior project consultant by CIBER, Inc., a leading international systems integration consultancy and outsourcing provider with 85 branch offices including on in Providence, RI.
