Topic: Secrets to Project Success: Practical Approaches to Identifying, Evaluating, and Mitigating Project Risk Management
When risks are realized, there are severe repercussions for your business, and depending on what business you're in, there can be real-world consequences that affect people's lives. Yet, project risk management is typically about dealing in worst-case scenarios, dwelling on the negative potentialities that—get this— might not even happen. There are enough “real” uncertainties and issues that exist right now in any project; how are you going to convince executives to spend their money on risks that aren't even realized yet?
Critically-acclaimed speaker and author, Gus Cicala, will address the secrets for fulfilling the crucial role of project risk management in this difficult business environment. The 90-minute presentation will include interactive discussion, risk management templates and real-world examples, such as the Challenger disaster, to provide an overview of the topics of risk management within the context of PMBOK's project management methods and concepts.
The goal of the presentation will be to help you achieve the ideal state of an organic, fully integrated flow between project management and risk management. Within the framework of the project management process of Planning, we will cover how to:
•
Identify risks through risk checklists, brainstorming, historical analysis, etc.
•
Evaluate risks (qualitatively or quantitatively) and how to synthesize the considerations of impact and probability into a final product that helps to select the top-priority risks for mitigation planning.
•
Plan the mitigation approach (defining the scope, schedule and resources that will be used) and deciding at what point the risk will be enough of an issue to enact that mitigation plan.
Within the framework of the project management execution processes of Tracking and Analysis, we will cover how to:
•
Monitor the risks, placing highest priority on the risks that were selected in the evaluation process and on the risks that have the highest probability given where you are in the project.
•
Report on those findings and sounding the alarms when they become unfavorable.
The presentation will leave the attendees ready to develop and implement a practical approach to improving project success rates in their organization through an comprehensive risk management process.
