John Chappelear is the founder of Changing the Focus, LLC, a leading professional services firm, offering motivational keynotes, executive coaching, and organizational enhancement workshops.

The mission is to use the simple truths and strategies in John’s award winning book, The Daily Six (G.P. Putnam’s Sons), to help transform organizational cultures and individual belief systems so people can prosper with purpose. He helps people realize a greater sense of significance by redefining their self-perceptions and becoming more accountable to themselves, to others and to their organizations. Combining both work and life strategies is the key to creating success with significance.

John is a self-described “Recovering Big Shot”! He spent many years in the “gerbil wheel of success” gaining wealth at the expense of his family and everything meaningful in his life. It took what John refers to as a “gift of devastation” to get him back on track. The bitter twist of fate that cost him his financial success eventually lead him to a life of far greater meaning. Today, he is committed to sharing his path to rediscovery by delivering inspirational messages through writing, speeches and workshops. He encourages audiences and clients to examine their lives and to change their focus from planning for a distant tomorrow to working and living a joy-filled and successful life today.

John has over 30 years of experience as an executive and entrepreneur, founding his first company in the Washington, DC area at the age 30. He is a University of South Carolina alumnus and member of Phi Delta Theta National Men’s Fraternity. He is passionate about helping the children of our community and currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Episcopal Children’s Services of Jacksonville. He lives in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and is gratefully married to Susan, his wife of 24 years. They have three wonderful children and five amazing grandchildren!
